Can Viable Systems Modelling Explain the Management Problems of London's Royal Opera House?
نویسنده
چکیده
London's Royal Opera House has undertaken a much-needed redevelopment. The management of the operation has been problematic, bringing the House close to insolvency, and causing the resignation of many senior staff. This paper summarises these events, and earlier papers analysing them using systemic methods. It examines the organisation's structure using Beer's Viable Systems Model. The management problems are attributed to system incompatibilities, and to simple management errors. The VSM analysis indicates that all elements of a viable system were present. However, there was inadequate provision for a vital aspect of the redevelopment project, for which the main Board must take responsibility.

متن کاملTowards Digital Facility Modelling for Sydney Opera House Using Ifc and Semantic Web Technology
The challenges of maintaining a building such as Sydney Opera House are immense and are dependent upon a vast array of information. The value of information can be enhanced by its currency, accessibility and the ability to correlate data sets (integration of information sources). A building information model correlated to various information sources related to the facility is used as definition...

متن کاملThe Perception of Artistic Quality in Opera – Results from a Field Study
The authors focus on spectators’ judgements on the performance quality in opera. The results of a field study conducted in Dessau Opera House revealed the single components (e.g. orchestra) and the congruency components (e.g. congruency between the music and the staging dimension) which contribute to operagoers’ overall quality judgements. Spectators’ individual judgements were found to be high...
